On Thursday, July 16, 2026 (local time), Google announced an update to the “Avatar” generation feature currently available in the Google AI “Gemini” app.
The “Avatar” generation feature in the Gemini app allows users to create a digital avatar for use within Gemini by using their own selfie videos and recorded audio. Once generated, these avatars can be utilized to create new content through AI models such as the video generation model “Gemini Omni” and the image generation model “Nano Banana.”
With this latest update, users no longer need to upload selfie videos or recorded audio when generating an avatar again. You can now easily regenerate or create new avatars using the data from an avatar that has already been generated.
That said, the “Avatar” generation feature for the Gemini app remains available only in English-language environments and is not currently supported in Japanese-language environments.
