On Thursday, July 16, 2026 (local time), Google announced the rollout of a new “Personal Avatars” feature for its AI video editing service, Google Vids.
The “Personal Avatars” feature coming to Google Vids allows users to create a digital version of themselves by simply uploading a selfie and a short audio clip. Once created, users can simply input a script, and their “Personal Avatar”—bearing their likeness and voice—will read it aloud on their behalf.
As a safety measure to prevent misuse, “Personal Avatars” are restricted to the likeness of the account owner associated with the Google account. It is not possible to generate a “Personal Avatar” of another person.
The “Personal Avatars” feature in Google Vids is available to “Google AI Pro” and “Google AI Ultra” members, as well as those with “Google Workspace” business accounts.
