- The “Add SIM” screen animation has been renewed in “Android 17.”
- It now follows the “Material 3 Expressive” specifications, the latest update to the Android design system.
- I happened to stumble upon this change.
In mid-June 2026, the major “Android 17” OS update began rolling out to Google Pixel devices.
The “Android 17” major update is packed with content fitting for a major release, including new “Android 17” features, the June 2026 “Pixel Drop,” updates to the Android security patch level, and a total of 38 bug fixes and improvements. However, there are also various smaller refinements included.
One such subtle refinement is the animation for the “Add SIM” screen. At some point, it was updated to follow the specifications of “Material 3 Expressive,” the latest version of the Android design system.
I found this by chance, so while I don’t have a direct comparison with the old “Add SIM” animation on Google Pixel devices, I have attached the “Add SIM” animations for the “Phone (3a)” for reference.
I will continue to share any other discoveries as I find them.
