On Tuesday, June 30, 2026 (local time), Google announced the “Nano Banana 2 Lite (Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite Image),” the fastest and most cost-effective addition to its “Nano Banana” image generation AI model family.
“Nano Banana 2 Lite” replaces the initial “Nano Banana (Gemini 2.5 Flash Image)” model, offering superior generation speed and reduced costs. Generated images are embedded with the “SynthID” digital watermark, allowing for AI content verification within the Gemini app and Google Image Search.
“Nano Banana 2 Lite” is available to developers through the multimodal generative AI development platform “Google AI Studio” and the “Gemini API.” It will also be gradually rolled out across various Google products, including AI Search’s “AI Mode,” NotebookLM, Google Photos, and the Gemini app.
