The “🎙 (microphone)” icon in the Gemini app for Android and iOS is used for voice input. With this update, voice input in the Gemini app has been greatly enhanced, now supporting over 70 languages and allowing users to mix these supported languages during use.
While this major update currently applies to the “🎙 (microphone)” icon in the Gemini app for Android and iOS, it appears that the “🎙 (microphone)” icon in the web version of Gemini will receive the same improvements one week later. Note that the “🎙 (microphone)” icon in the Gemini app for Android and iOS has already supported Japanese voice input.
