- “Tap to cast” on the Pixel Tablet has stopped working without warning.
- This feature allows media playing on UWB-enabled Google Pixel “Pixel x Pro” series devices to be seamlessly transferred to a Pixel Tablet docked in its “Charging Speaker Dock” just by bringing the devices close together.
- Around mid-June 2026, the feature became unresponsive when attempting to use “Tap to cast” while playing “YouTube,” “YouTube Music,” or “Spotify” on my Pixel Tablet with my “Pixel 10 Pro XL” and “Pixel 10 Pro Fold.”
Released as part of the December 2024 “Pixel Drop,” the “Tap to cast” feature for the Google Pixel Tablet has quietly stopped working.
However, it is possible this is an issue isolated to my environment.
The “Tap to cast” feature for the Pixel Tablet allows users to seamlessly transfer (cast) media like “Spotify” or “YouTube Music” from UWB-enabled Google Pixel “Pixel x Pro” series devices to a “Pixel Tablet” docked in its Charging Speaker Dock simply by moving the device closer (no need to tap a cast icon). The reverse is also possible, allowing media playing on the Pixel Tablet to be moved to the Pixel x Pro series. Note that “Tap to cast” requires both devices to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Essentially, “Tap to cast” is a convenient way to perform standard “casting” via a gesture. However, since it only works between the Pixel Tablet and UWB-enabled “Pixel x Pro” series devices, it is a very minor feature that rarely comes up in conversation. It would be no exaggeration to say it is as practically useless as the “thermometer” on the “Pixel 8 Pro,” “Pixel 9 Pro,” and “Pixel 10 Pro.”
Recently, “Tap to cast” has stopped working without warning. Around mid-June 2026, I attempted to use “Tap to cast” while playing “YouTube,” “YouTube Music,” and “Spotify” on my own “Pixel Tablet” with my “Pixel 10 Pro XL” and “Pixel 10 Pro Fold,” but there was no response. This applies to both transfers between the Pixel Tablet and the Pixel 10 Pro XL or Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
Furthermore, the “Tap to cast” settings themselves have not disappeared from the “Pixel x Pro” series.

Google has not announced the discontinuation of “Tap to cast,” so I suspect it is likely a temporary bug or something similar. To be honest, even if they did discontinue it, it’s unlikely that many users would be bothered by it.
