On Wednesday, June 3, 2026 (local time), Google announced “Gemini Go,” a Google AI designed for the lightweight Android Go OS, and began rolling it out to “Android Go” devices with 2GB of RAM or more.

As the name suggests, “Gemini Go” is a lightweight version of “Gemini.” It is designed to replace the existing “Google Assistant Go” and allows users to utilize “Gemini” even on “Android Go” devices with limited storage capacity.

On “Android Go” devices, “Gemini Go” can be activated by long-pressing the home button or power button, just like the standard “Gemini” app on Android. Users can ask questions via text, as well as upload documents, photos, or other files to use as a basis for queries.

It also supports voice commands to place calls to contacts stored in “Google Contacts” or send text messages via the “Google Messages” app. Additionally, it offers features such as navigation powered by “Google Maps Go,” setting alarms, scheduling events in “Google Calendar,” and requesting music playback based on your mood via the “YouTube Music” app.
