- The new “Branch in new chat” feature for the Gemini app has finally begun rolling out to Android and iOS versions between late May and early June 2026.
- “Branch in new chat” allows users to branch off from a specific point in a conversation with Gemini.
- By using this feature mid-chat, a copy of the original conversation is created as a “branch,” allowing users to continue the original and the branched chat separately.
Approximately a month and a half ago, in late April 2026, Josh Woodward (@joshwoodward), Head of Gemini, announced the rollout of the new “Branch in new chat” feature for the Google AI Gemini app.
The “Branch in new chat” feature allows you to fork your conversation with Gemini from any point in the chat history. By choosing this option, a copy of the chat up to that point is created, allowing you to diverge from the original and explore different paths—A, B, C, and so on—independently. It is a highly anticipated feature that lets you go back to previous points in a conversation to take the dialogue in a new direction.
In essence, this allows users to branch out into different patterns as they see fit. It is a feature many users have been eagerly waiting for.
Initially, this new feature was only available to about 20% of users worldwide, and in my experience, it was limited to the web version of Gemini. However, between late May and early June 2026, the rollout has finally expanded to include the Android and iOS Gemini apps.
I have confirmed the availability of “Branch in new chat” on my own Android and iOS devices.

While the exact reach of the “Branch in new chat” feature at this moment remains unclear as no official stats have been released, it is undoubtedly more widely available now than it was previously.
