YouTube Premium High-Quality Audio Expanded to Smart TVs and Game Consoles

On Friday, May 29, 2026 (local time), Google’s video service, YouTube, announced an expansion of its “Enhanced bitrate” (high-quality audio) option—a benefit available to YouTube Premium members—to additional platforms. This feature provides an audio quality of 256kbps.

The “Enhanced bitrate” feature for YouTube Premium has previously been available on the Android and iOS versions of the YouTube app. By selecting “Enhanced” under the “Audio quality” settings within the “Quality” section of the app, users can experience high-quality audio at 256kbps when playing back supported videos.

This YouTube Premium benefit has now been expanded to the YouTube app on smart TVs and gaming consoles. Just like with the Android and iOS apps, YouTube Premium members can now enable high-quality audio at a 256kbps bitrate by selecting “Enhanced bitrate” in the “Audio” settings menu.
