Sameer Samat (@ssamat), President of the Android Ecosystem, announced on Friday, May 29, 2026 (local time), that a new “Scan” feature has begun rolling out for the Android version of the Google Drive online storage service.
The Android version of the Google Drive app has long featured a “Scan” scanner tool that allows users to capture handwritten notes, receipts, and flyers as PDF or JPG files. This “Scan” feature has now been upgraded to include multi-page batch scanning, automatic page splitting, duplicate detection, and an auto-optimization frame that automatically corrects blur.
Furthermore, because these features are processed 100% on-device, they can be used while offline and operate at ultra-high speeds, all while ensuring user privacy.

The upgraded “Scan” feature for the Android Google Drive app announced by Sameer Samat appears to be available for Android devices equipped with 8GB of RAM or more.
