On Tuesday, May 19, 2026 (local time), Google officially announced “Google Pics,” a new image creation and editing tool based on its latest generative AI model, “Nano Banana,” during the “Google I/O 2026” developer event.

Google Pics is an image creation and editing tool that enables AI-powered editing, much like “Magic Editor” in Google Photos. Users can move objects, resize items, change specific colors, or swap elements (e.g., changing a dog to a cat). Furthermore, it allows for the editing and translation of text within images while preserving the original design and font.

As Google Pics is integrated into the groupware platform “Google Workspace,” it will be available across various services, including Google Drive and Google Slides. Naturally, it will also support shared image editing among Google Workspace groups.

“Google Pics”

Google Pics is currently being rolled out to a limited group of trusted testers, with a preview version scheduled to be released in the summer of 2026 for “Google AI Pro” and “Google AI Ultra” members, as well as for “Google Workspace” business accounts.
