On Tuesday, May 19, 2026 (local time), Google announced “Neural Expressive,” a new design language to be introduced into the Google AI “Gemini” app, during its developer conference “Google I/O 2026.”
“Neural Expressive,” which is being integrated into the “Gemini” app, is a bold and engaging design language characterized by fluid animations, vibrant colors, new typography, and haptic feedback. While the “Gemini” app UI has undergone a major renewal to coincide with “Google I/O 2026,” this newly announced “Neural Expressive” serves as the foundational design language for these changes.

The “Gemini” app featuring “Neural Expressive” also integrates the conversation specifications of the intuitive conversational service, “Gemini Live,” enabling more natural interactions with Gemini. Furthermore, support for various regional dialects is planned for the future.
In addition, “Gemini” powered by “Neural Expressive” will incorporate not only long-form text but also rich imagery, interactive timelines, narrated videos, and dynamic graphics to provide more engaging and easy-to-understand responses.
