JCB Contactless Now Available on Wear OS

Key Points of This Article
  • “JCB Contactless” is now available on the Wear OS version of the Google Wallet app.
  • You can now use JCB Contactless payments on your Wear OS smartwatch.
  • System requirements include a Wear OS smartwatch with NFC running Wear OS 2 or later.

JCB’s NFC contactless payment service, “JCB Contactless,” was first introduced for Android devices via the “Google Wallet (Google Pay)” service on September 6, 2024, approximately a year and a half ago.

Initially, JCB Contactless was only compatible with the Android version of the Google Wallet app and did not support the Wear OS version, meaning it was not possible to use JCB Contactless on Wear OS smartwatches. However, it appears that support for the Wear OS Google Wallet app has been quietly rolled out.

I have successfully registered my “JAL CARD (JCB)” in the Wear OS Google Wallet app on my Google Pixel Watch 4. It is correctly registered as an NFC contactless payment (JCB Contactless), not as QUICPay.

Please note that to register a JCB Contactless credit card to the Wear OS Google Wallet app, you do not use the “MyJCB” app; instead, you add the card via the Google Wallet app on the Android device paired with your Wear OS smartwatch.

While the exact date when JCB Contactless became compatible with the Wear OS Google Wallet app is unclear, the “Google Wallet Help” page regarding “supported payment methods” has recently been updated to include JCB Contactless for Wear OS, suggesting it was released very recently. Please note that for JCB Contactless to work on the Wear OS Google Wallet app, your smartwatch must be running Wear OS 2 or later and be equipped with NFC.
