On Tuesday, May 12, 2026, Google announced a new feature for its Android “Quick Share” proximity sharing service: the ability to share files with iOS devices via the cloud using QR codes.

The “Quick Share” feature for sharing via QR codes between Android devices was first rolled out in January 2025. Now, this QR code sharing functionality has been expanded to include support for iOS devices.

By selecting “Use QR code” (share using a QR code) in the Android “Quick Share” send menu, users can have an iOS device scan the displayed QR code to receive files via the cloud. This feature is being rolled out gradually and is expected to be fully available by the end of June 2026.

This expansion of the “Quick Share” QR code feature for iOS was also announced as part of the latest May 2026 update for “Google Play Services” (version 26.18 and later) within the “Google System Release Notes,” which summarize the “Google System Updates” published by Google on Monday, May 11, 2026, aimed at improving the security and reliability of Android-related devices.

Furthermore, the “Quick Share” integration with Apple’s “AirDrop,” currently available on select Android devices such as the “Pixel 9” and “Pixel 10” series, is planned to expand to more Android devices from partner companies, including Samsung, OPPO, OnePlus, Vivo, Xiaomi, and HONOR.
