On Tuesday, May 12, 2026 (local time), Google announced several new features coming to its next-generation Android OS, “Android 17.”

The announced features include “Screen Reactions,” full optimization for “Instagram,” and new “Edits” tools, alongside the upcoming release of the Android version of the “Adobe Premiere” app.

Screen Reactions

Screen Reactions

“Screen Reactions” is a feature that allows users to easily create reaction videos to images or footage for use on social media platforms.

By recording both the image or video and the user simultaneously, the user is overlaid on top of the content. This means you can easily create reaction videos for social media posts without the hassle of using dedicated apps or green screens.

“Screen Reactions” will be rolled out first to Google Pixel devices in the summer of 2026.

Full “Instagram” Optimization

Full “Instagram” Optimization

In partnership with Meta, the Android version of the “Instagram” app is being fully optimized. New features supporting the entire process from capture to upload will be rolled out, including Ultra HDR capture and display for vivid, distinct colors, image stabilization for smoother video recording, and integration of a night-sight-like feature to ensure reliable shooting in low-light environments.

Furthermore, the Android version of “Instagram” will be fully optimized for Android tablets, allowing users to leverage the larger screen to adjust photos and videos for posts.

New “Edits” Tools

Smart enhance

The “Edits” app for Instagram, provided by Meta, is introducing new tools: “Smart enhance,” which uses advanced AI to improve photo and video quality with a single tap, and “Sound separation,” which identifies and isolates audio tracks—such as wind noise, background chatter, or music—within a video to emphasize desired sounds while removing unwanted noise.

Android Version of “Adobe Premiere” App

The Android version of the video editing software “Adobe Premiere,” which features templates and effects specifically for creating and posting “YouTube Shorts,” will be released soon.

Additionally, the “APV (Advanced Professional Video)” high-quality video codec developed by Samsung, currently available on the “Galaxy S26 Ultra” and “vivo X300 Ultra,” will be supported on more flagship devices later in 2026.
