On Tuesday, May 12, 2026, Google officially announced “Gemini in Chrome,” a feature integrating Google AI into the Chrome browser for Android.

The Android version of “Gemini in Chrome” is a personal AI browsing assistant powered by the “Gemini 3.1” model. It allows users to invoke Gemini directly from the toolbar while browsing web pages to ask questions, get summaries, or receive explanations of complex topics, all without the need to switch between applications. It will begin rolling out in the United States in late June 2026 for Android devices running Android 12 or higher.

The Android version of “Gemini in Chrome” also serves as a productivity tool by integrating with various Google apps. This includes features like adding events to “Google Calendar,” creating ingredient lists in “Google Keep” from recipe sites, and searching for specific information in “Gmail.” It also incorporates “Personal Intelligence” capabilities.

Generative AI for Images: “Nano Banana”

Gemini in Chrome for Android features “Nano Banana,” a generative AI tool that allows users to instantly create highly personalized visuals within the browser or customize images found on the web.

For example, if you want a visual understanding of a web page or content you are studying for an exam, you can instruct it to “convert this page into an information-rich infographic,” and the diagram will be generated. Similarly, if you are looking at apartment listings and want to visualize what a room might look like with furniture, you can simply command, “add modern living room essentials to this image,” and it will generate an image reflecting that living space.

Automated Browsing: “Chrome auto browse”

Automated Browsing: “Chrome auto browse”

With the release of Gemini in Chrome for Android, Google is introducing “Chrome auto browse,” its first automated browsing feature.

“Chrome auto browse” is an automation feature designed to simplify tedious web tasks. For instance, if you forget to book parking before heading to an event, you can ask “Chrome auto browse” to “find a parking lot near the event venue.” It will read your event ticket information and automatically locate the nearest available parking.

“Chrome auto browse” within Gemini in Chrome for Android will be available to members of “Google AI Pro” and “Google AI Ultra” in the United States.

Security and Protection

Gemini in Chrome for Android comes equipped with the same security and protection features as the desktop version.

This protects users from emerging threats such as “prompt injection,” where malicious instructions are sent to an AI to override its intended operations. Furthermore, “Chrome auto browse” always requests user confirmation before executing sensitive tasks, such as making a purchase or posting to social media.
