On Monday, May 11, 2026, Google began rolling out a data transfer service called “Transfer Content” for “Google Workspace for Education” accounts, specifically for Google Photos.
“Google Workspace for Education” accounts are issued to students by schools and universities. When students leave the institution, such as upon graduation, they typically lose access to these accounts. Without a data migration process, all the photos, videos, and albums stored in the “Google Workspace for Education” Google Photos account during their student life would be permanently deleted.
To address this unfortunate issue, Google has introduced the “Transfer Content” service for “Google Workspace for Education” accounts. By accessing the “Transfer Content” page and following the instructions, users can now migrate their Google Photos data to a personal Google account.
