In the latest May 2026 edition of the “Google System Release Notes“—which summarizes information on “Google System Updates” that enhance the security and reliability of Android-related devices—Google announced on Monday, May 11, 2026, that iOS devices will now be supported for QR code sharing via the Android nearby sharing feature, “Quick Share.”

The “Quick Share” QR code sharing feature was officially launched in January 2025. This feature allows content to be transferred via the cloud by having the receiving device scan a dedicated QR code displayed on the sending device.

While the Android “Quick Share” QR code sharing feature was previously limited to Android or ChromeOS, it will now allow content to be received on iOS as well. Although “Quick Share” already supports cross-platform content transfer with Apple’s “AirDrop,” the number of compatible devices is still quite limited; however, QR code sharing to iOS devices is expected to become available on most Android devices.

iOS device support for the “Quick Share” QR code sharing feature will be rolled out in version 26.18 or later of the “Google Play Services” app for Android.
