- Google has released details via the official “Fitbit Help” page regarding whether the “Google Health” app will continue to support “Fitbit” accounts or if a migration to a Google account is mandatory.
- In short: A Google account is mandatory for the “Google Health” app.
- “Fitbit” accounts that have not been migrated to a Google account by Wednesday, July 15, 2026, will be deleted.
On Thursday, May 7, 2026 (local time), Google announced that as part of its healthcare feature integration, the Android/iOS “Fitbit” app provided by its subsidiary, fitness tracker manufacturer Fitbit, would be rebranded and renewed as the new “Google Health” app.
The new Android/iOS “Google Health” app will be rolled out gradually starting Tuesday, May 19, 2026 (local time), through an update to the current “Fitbit” app. The most important factor here is the account required for use. Google has published details on its official “Fitbit Help” page regarding whether users can continue using their “Fitbit” accounts or if they must migrate to a Google account.
To put it simply: a Google account is mandatory for the “Google Health” app. You cannot use it with a standalone “Fitbit” account.
Important:
How to migrate your Fitbit account to a Google account – Fitbit Help
- As of May 19, 2026, you will no longer be able to access Fitbit using a Fitbit account. To continue using your account, you must migrate your Fitbit account to a Google account.
- You can download or delete your data until the deletion process begins on July 15, 2026.
- A Google account is required when registering for Fitbit, activating newly released Fitbit devices, or setting up Google Pixel devices.
As mentioned, logging in with a Google account is required for the renewed “Google Health” app. Since the app cannot be used with a “Fitbit” account, you must migrate your account now if you haven’t already.
Furthermore, since access to “Fitbit” accounts will be discontinued after Tuesday, May 19, 2026, a migration to a Google account is mandatory even if you choose not to update to the “Google Health” app. Any “Fitbit” accounts that have not been migrated to a Google account by Wednesday, July 15, 2026, will be deleted.
That said, migration prompts from “Fitbit” accounts to Google accounts have been ongoing for some time. It is likely that almost no active “Fitbit” users remain who have not yet made the switch.
The main concern involves currently inactive “Fitbit” users. If your “Fitbit” account is deleted without migrating to a Google account, your historical data will also be wiped, meaning you would have to start from scratch if you ever wanted to return to the service.
If you have personal reasons for avoiding the switch to a Google account, please at least ensure that you download your data before the deadline.
Devices with Compatibility Issues
The following devices may experience compatibility issues even if they meet the aforementioned requirements:
Requirements for setting up the Google Health app – Help
- Huawei P8 Lite
- Huawei P9 Lite
- Xiaomi Mi 6
- Huawei P20 Lite
While the “Google Health” app requires an Android device running Android 11 or later, it appears that the four models listed above—Huawei P8 Lite, Huawei P9 Lite, Xiaomi Mi 6, and Huawei P20 Lite—may face compatibility issues even when running Android 11 or newer.
