On Thursday, May 7, 2026 (local time), Fitbit, a fitness tracker manufacturer under the Google umbrella, officially announced its first screenless wearable tracker, the “Fitbit Air.”

The “Fitbit Air” is priced at $99 in the US and will be released on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. In Japan, it is also scheduled to launch on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, for 16,800 yen (tax included). Additionally, a special edition will be available in the US for $129.99.

At the Google Store in Japan, three limited-time offers are available until Monday, May 25, 2026: an increased trade-in value for the “Trade-in Program,” a 5,580 yen Google Store credit, and three months of free access to the “Google Health Premium” subscription service (which costs 1,500 yen per month and launches on Tuesday, May 19, 2026).

For reference, “Google Health Premium” is the rebranded version of the current “Fitbit Premium” subscription service, taking effect on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. For “Google AI Pro” or “Google AI Ultra” members, “Google Health Premium” is included as a benefit.

“Fitbit Air”

The “Fitbit Air” is a screenless wearable tracker designed to make the most of the Gemini-powered health coaching features, now renamed from “Personal Health Coach” to “Google Health Coach.”

The device consists of a screenless core unit equipped with an optical heart rate monitor, 3-axis accelerometer, gyroscope, red and infrared sensors for SpO2 (blood oxygen) monitoring, a skin temperature sensor, and a vibration motor, housed within a wristband. It offers advanced fitness tracking, including 24/7 heart rate monitoring, heart rhythm tracking with atrial fibrillation alerts, SpO2, resting heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), and detailed sleep stages and duration.

Since the “Fitbit Air” has a screenless design, all tracked information can be viewed via the “Google Health” app, formerly known as the “Fitbit” app.

There are three types of wristbands available: the “Active Band” made from recycled materials, the “Performance Loop Band” made of sweat- and water-resistant silicone, and the classic “Premium Modern Band,” each available in multiple color variations.

The “Fitbit Air” offers a battery life of up to one week on a full charge. It supports fast charging, providing one day’s worth of power in just 5 minutes.

While wearing the “Fitbit Air,” you can start fitness tracking manually via the “Google Health” app, or let the device automatically detect and track when you begin a workout. The automatic workout detection feature becomes more precise and personalized the more you use it.

The “Fitbit Air” is compatible with Android devices running Android 11 or later and iOS devices running iOS 16.4 or later. The official price for the device is 16,800 yen (tax included).
