The next-generation Google Pixel “Pixel 11” series, likely to be announced in August 2026, may see the discontinuation of a feature that has been included for the past three generations.

The feature in question is the “thermometer” (temperature sensor), which was first introduced with the “Pixel 8 Pro.” A leak published by the overseas leaker Mystic Leaks, who is active on Telegram, reports the possibility of the “thermometer” being phased out in the “Pixel 11” series.

The “thermometer sensor” debuted on the “Pixel 8 Pro” and has been included in the past three generations, including the “Pixel 9 Pro,” “Pixel 9 Pro XL,” “Pixel 10 Pro,” and “Pixel 10 Pro XL.” The “Pixel Thermometer” app uses the sensor located near the rear camera to measure the temperature of objects.

Furthermore, a “body temperature measurement” feature—which performs a contactless scan of the temporal artery—was rolled out in the United States in January 2024 and in Europe in September 2024. Initially, there was also speculation about the possibility of the “Pixel 11 Pro Fold” becoming the first foldable Google Pixel device to feature a thermometer sensor.

While the “thermometer sensor” could be considered a premium feature for the Google Pixel “Pro” series, it may be discontinued in the “Pixel 11 Pro” and “Pixel 11 Pro XL.” One might be tempted to call it “a shame,” but in reality, almost no users would likely be bothered by the removal of the sensor.

After all, there probably aren’t many users looking to measure the temperature of objects or their body temperature with a smartphone.
