Google Photos Officially Launches “Remix Photos” Integration

On Thursday, April 30, 2026, Google officially announced the integration of the ” Remix ” and ” Create with AI ” AI editing features in its online photo library service, “Google Photos,” into a single unified feature called “Remix.”

While this integration had been spotted in the Android version of the Google Photos app between mid-to-late April 2026, it has now been officially confirmed.

“Remix” is an AI editing tool that allows users to transform photos stored in Google Photos by applying various styles (such as Anime, Sketch, or 3D Animation). In Japan, the feature began its full-scale rollout in December 2025.

On the other hand, “Create with AI” is an AI image generation content feature powered by the “Nano Banana” image generation model. It turns popular AI editing requests—such as “add me to a high-fashion photo,” “create a professional headshot,” or “add me to a winter holiday card”—into templates. By selecting one of your own photos along with a desired template, the AI generates a new image based on that photo.

This feature started rolling out in Japan in February 2026.

While “Remix” was originally designed for comical photo transformations and “Create with AI” focused on upgrading photos to fit specific templates, they were both fundamentally AI editing tools that modify images based on selected templates. Consequently, they have now been unified under the “Remix” name.

The integration of these features into “Remix” is currently rolling out for the Android version of the Google Photos app, with a rollout for the iOS version expected in the near future.
