On Friday, April 24, 2026, Google Japan announced that the “Google Autofill” feature in the Chrome browser now supports saving “Yomigana” (phonetic readings in Katakana or Hiragana).
While “Google Autofill” has previously supported saving names written in Kanji, it now supports Japan-specific phonetic readings, enabling users to save manually entered Yomigana and have it automatically filled in for future forms. In line with this update, a new “Yomigana” field has been added to the “Addresses and more” section of the Google Autofill settings.
Note that “Google Autofill” can be turned off in the settings. If you do not wish to save your personal information with Google, please toggle “Save and fill addresses” to OFF within the “Addresses and more” settings.
