On Wednesday, April 22, 2026, Google announced significant enhancements to the document generation capabilities of “Gemini in Google Docs,” the Google AI-integrated service for the Google Workspace document platform.
These newly announced enhancements for “Gemini in Google Docs” are poised to fundamentally transform the standard document creation process. By simply using a new bar or side panel at the bottom of the screen to give prompts to Gemini, users can now have the AI automatically retrieve and synthesize information from Gmail, Google Chat, and across the entire web to generate a fully formatted initial draft in an instant.
For shared files, Gemini will initially present the draft only to the user who requested it as a suggestion. It will only become visible to other collaborators once the user approves the content.

Furthermore, new “Match doc format” and “Match writing style” features have been added, allowing users to leverage existing documents or templates to generate materials that align with their brand or specific needs. With these, Gemini automatically mimics structural elements such as fonts, colors, headings, tables, and columns from a source document, as well as the tone of the writing, to produce consistent and professional results.
These major upgrades to Gemini in Google Docs will be rolled out for Google Workspace accounts, as well as for members of the Google One AI plans, “Google AI Pro” and “Google AI Ultra.” Initially, the feature will be available in English only.
Support for Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Korean, and Japanese is planned for subsequent updates.
