On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, Google released “Wear OS 6.1” (Build number: BP4A.250916.026.E2), the latest version of its wearable operating system, for the official Android Studio emulator.
According to Google, this release of Wear OS 6.1 is based on the Android 16 (API level 36.1) Quarterly Platform Release, specifically “Android 16 QPR2.” Please note that this is currently limited to the emulator and cannot be installed on devices such as the Google Pixel Watch series.
Wear OS 6.1 introduces a new automatic time zone detection feature based on current location, along with two improvements for Wear OS smartwatches configured with child accounts. The automatic time zone feature ensures that the smartwatch correctly displays the local time even when the user travels between different time zones.
The improvements for child accounts include a feature where parental supervision is automatically removed once the account holder reaches the age of digital consent (16 years old in Japan). Additionally, if a user’s credentials become invalid, they can now re-authenticate their Google account directly from the Wear OS smartwatch or the companion app. This eliminates the need for a factory reset if passwords or account information are changed after the initial setup.
It is anticipated that Wear OS 6.1 will be rolled out to the Google Pixel Watch series as part of a software update expected around June 2026.
