On Monday, March 30, 2026, Google announced an expansion of the EV-focused AI features available in the “Google Maps” app for the car operating system, “Android Auto.”

The AI features for EVs in the “Android Auto” Google Maps app leverage artificial intelligence and advanced energy models to automatically perform highly precise battery consumption predictions and optimal route planning customized for electric vehicles. It analyzes a combination of vehicle-specific specifications—such as vehicle weight and battery capacity—alongside real-time data from Google Maps, including traffic conditions, elevation, and weather.

For example, by simply setting your current battery level and destination in the Google Maps app, it will suggest charging stops along the way, provide an estimated time of arrival (ETA) that accounts for charging time, and predict your battery level upon arrival at your destination. This eliminates the need to use separate charging search apps and significantly and smartly reduces range anxiety during long-distance drives.

EV-focused AI features

The compatibility for these AI features in the Google Maps app on Android Auto has now been expanded to over 350 models from more than 15 EV brands in the U.S. Plans are in place to extend this support to even more vehicles in the future.
