- Android Auto may finally be getting support for YouTube playback.
- The YouTube player for Android Auto is designed for audio-only playback, not for video.
- This appears to be a test or beta version currently being rolled out to a very limited number of users.
While Google’s car operating system, “Android Auto,” does not currently support the playback of video-related apps or content, it may finally be gaining support for YouTube.
The possibility emerged after an overseas user posted images on the social news site Reddit, showing a YouTube player added to Android Auto. However, it is important to note that this YouTube player for Android Auto is designed to play audio only, not video content.
In other words, it functions as a player that streams only the audio from YouTube video content, similar to existing music apps like “YouTube Music” or “Spotify.” After all, it’s highly unlikely that Android Auto would ever support video playback.
Furthermore, this YouTube player on Android Auto is likely a test or beta version currently being rolled out to a very select group of users. I also looked into the potential addition of this YouTube player through “App Teardown,” but as of now, no relevant code has been found.
