About two weeks ago, on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, the March 2026 monthly software update was rolled out to Google Pixel devices (Pixel 6 and later) running the new generation Android 16 OS. At the same time, the March 2026 “Pixel Drop” feature update also began its rollout.
The March 2026 “Pixel Drop” introduces 21 new features in stages, much to the delight of Google Pixel users. Among these, one feature long-awaited by users in Japan is the “Theme Pack,” which allows users to customize the UI of their Google Pixel devices with various seasonal themes. While “Theme Packs” were originally released as an app in the November 2025 Pixel Drop and saw a global rollout, Japan was initially excluded.
However, with the March 2026 Pixel Drop, “Theme Packs” were finally unlocked in Japan. Although a theme inspired by the movie “Wicked” had been available until January 31, 2026, the deadline passed before its release in Japan. Since March 2026, a new “SpongeBob” theme has been available.
However, the “Wicked” theme has now been quietly released within “Theme Packs.” While it is expected to be a Japan-exclusive release, the “Wicked” theme has become available to apply as of mid-March 2026.
Like the “SpongeBob” theme, the “Wicked” theme offers three variations to choose from. The duration for which the “Wicked” theme will be available in Japan remains unknown.
