Google Photos on Android Starts Highlighting Stickers

Key Points of This Article
  • The Android version of the Google Photos app now displays a highlight prompt when you open a photo that can be converted into a “Sticker.”
  • When a photo is opened, a beam of light traces the outline of the “Sticker” area, notifying the user that a sticker can be created.
  • There is currently no setting available to turn off these “Sticker” highlight prompts.

In late February 2026, Google began rolling out the “Custom Sticker” creation feature for its online photo library service, “Google Photos,” to the Android app, having previously made it available on the iOS version.

The sticker creation feature is now available in the Android version of the Google Photos app. Along with this update, Google has introduced a new highlight animation that triggers when you open a photo from which a sticker can be created. The feature works by tracing a beam of light along the edges of the subject, signaling to the user that they can create a sticker from that image.

It is unclear whether this “Sticker” highlight in the Android version of Google Photos is a temporary feature, but for the time being, there is no setting provided to disable the highlights themselves.
