- Google has announced a major update to its AI-integrated browser service, “Gemini in Chrome,” expanding its availability to more regions, languages, and platforms.
- The rollout now includes India, New Zealand, and Canada.
- It adds support for over 50 languages, including Hindi, French, and Spanish.
On Tuesday, March 10, 2026, Google announced a major update to “Gemini in Chrome,” its AI-integrated browser service that first launched in the U.S. on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, including an expansion of its supported regions, languages, and platforms.
“Gemini in Chrome” initially launched for users in the U.S. in English. This update expands its reach to three new countries: India, New Zealand, and Canada. Furthermore, the supported languages have increased significantly from just English to over 50, now including Hindi, French, Spanish, and more. Unfortunately, there is no word yet on a rollout for Japan or the Japanese language.
Additionally, while “Gemini in Chrome” was originally available only for Windows, macOS, and Chromebook Plus, the base AI model has been upgraded from “Gemini 3” to “Gemini 3.1,” allowing the service to expand to the Chrome app on Android and iOS. On iOS, users can access “Gemini in Chrome” directly within the Chrome app. On Android, since the implementation is OS-based, users can access it by long-pressing the power button while using the Chrome app.
While this major update brings “Gemini in Chrome” to India, New Zealand, and Canada, it is not a direct port of the U.S. version. It excludes certain features available in the U.S., such as connection support for Google apps like Gmail, Google Calendar, YouTube, Google Maps, Google Shopping, and Google Flights, as well as the autonomous agent feature, “Auto browse.”
New Side Panel Rollout
The “Gemini 3.1”-based major update for “Gemini in Chrome” introduces a new side panel that allows users to utilize Gemini while browsing.
This side panel is a convenient tool that lets you execute tasks using Gemini without leaving your current tab. Whether it’s summarizing product reviews from multiple sites or asking Gemini questions and giving instructions, you can now perform these actions without switching screens.

Multi-Tab Comparison
The “Gemini 3.1”-based “Gemini in Chrome” works seamlessly even when multiple tabs are open.
You can use the Gemini in Chrome side panel to compare web pages across multiple tabs or conduct research by simply entering prompts into the interface.
AI Image Generation with “Nano Banana”
The major update introduces AI image generation powered by “Nano Banana” within the new side panel, making it accessible at any time while you browse.
While viewing an image on a web page, you can simply enter an image editing prompt into the new side panel, and the AI will generate the image directly within that window.

Built with Security in Mind
While the updated “Gemini in Chrome” is designed to give users total control, it has also been built with security at its core.
This includes training AI models to recognize and mitigate known threats like “Prompt Injection,” where users might attempt to give malicious instructions to the AI, and implementing safety measures that require user confirmation when integrating with Google services like Gmail and Google Calendar. Naturally, the automatic update feature in Chrome will continue to provide security improvements and patches.
