On Wednesday, March 4, 2026, Google began rolling out the conversational AI feature “Canvas” within its “AI Mode” search service in the United States.
“Canvas” is an AI feature specifically designed for iterative creation and editing, such as writing documents like reports and presentations, or generating code in languages like HTML, PHP, and Python. For document creation, users can quickly re-edit text by entering feedback into a prompt and sending it to the AI.
It also supports suggested edits for specific sections, adjustments to tone, length, or formatting, and exporting the generated content. It is useful for drafting a variety of texts, including speeches, news articles, and reports.
While “Canvas” has primarily been available in the Google AI “Gemini” app, it has now expanded to “AI Mode” in the U.S., making it available for use.
