On Tuesday, March 3, 2026, Google announced “Real-time Location Sharing” for the “Google Messages” app, an SMS/MMS/RCS messaging client for Android, as part of the March 2026 “New Android Features” update.
The new “Real-time Location Sharing” feature coming to Google Messages leverages the “Find Hub” location service. Previously, to share a location, users had to start the process from the Google Maps app and then select the Google Messages app as the sharing destination. Now, this can be done directly from within the Google Messages app.
This new Google Messages feature allows users to share their real-time location with friends and family for a specific period (1 hour, today only, or a custom duration). It is useful not only for coordinating meetups but also for monitoring safety with mutual consent.
