On Friday, February 27, 2026, Google released the February 2026 edition of “Gemini Drop,” introducing new features for its Google AI, “Gemini,” announced throughout this month.
In February 2026, Google announced a total of five new Gemini-related features: the integration of the music generation AI model “Lyria 3” into the Gemini app, an upgraded “Gemini 3.1 Pro,” the image generation AI “Nano Banana 2,” template functionality for the video generation model “Veo 3.1,” and accurate scientific paper citations for APA (American Psychological Association) papers. Notably, while only about one of the features from the previous January 2026 “Gemini Drop” was released in Japan, almost all of this month’s new features are being deployed globally, including in Japan.
Integration of Music Generation AI Model “Lyria 3”

Google DeepMind’s music generation AI model “Lyria 3” has been integrated into the Gemini app, and the new “Generate Music” feature has begun rolling out.
Similar to the image generation AI “Nano Banana” and video generation AI “Veo,” the “Generate Music” feature allows users to request music creation via prompts. It generates 30-second, high-quality, catchy tracks complete with custom cover art created by the “Nano Banana” image generation AI.

Upgraded Version “Gemini 3.1 Pro”

Google has announced and begun the rollout of “Gemini 3.1 Pro,” an upgraded version of its Google AI, Gemini.
As the name suggests, “Gemini 3.1 Pro” is an upgrade based on “Gemini 3 Pro.” It is designed to handle the most complex tasks, with reasoning performance evolving to more than double that of “Gemini 3 Pro.”
“Gemini 3.1 Pro” is available starting from the day of the announcement for the Gemini app, NotebookLM, and developers, specifically for members of the “Google AI Pro” and “Google AI Ultra” plans within Google One.

Image Generation AI “Nano Banana 2”

Google has officially announced “Nano Banana 2 (Gemini 3.1 Flash Image),” the latest image generation AI model in the “Nano Banana” series based on Google AI Gemini.
“Nano Banana 2” is a state-of-the-art image generation AI model that combines the strengths of “Nano Banana,” announced in August 2025, and “Nano Banana Pro,” announced in November 2025. It achieves advanced world knowledge, quality, and reasoning at incredible speeds. While maintaining the complex reasoning capabilities and high-quality image generation of “Nano Banana Pro,” the generation time has been significantly reduced thanks to the “Flash” architecture of the Gemini 3.1 generation.

“Veo 3.1” Template Functionality

A new template feature has started rolling out for the “Generate Video” function powered by “Veo 3.1” in the Gemini app.
Previously, “Generate Video” relied solely on prompt instructions. With the introduction of the template feature, users can now use a template as a base and provide more precise instructions via prompts to generate videos.

Accurate Verified Citations for APA Papers

When generating papers in the format specified by the American Psychological Association (APA) within the Gemini app, the system now attaches citations and URL links from verified information sources.
This allows for the generation of high-quality papers based on thoroughly verified citations.
