On Thursday, February 26, 2026, Google officially announced “Nano Banana 2 (Gemini 3.1 Flash Image),” the latest image generation AI model in the “Nano Banana” series based on Google AI “Gemini,” and began rolling it out on the web version of the Gemini app.
The AI model for “Generate image” in the web version of the Gemini app has now automatically switched from the previous “Nano Banana Pro” to “Nano Banana 2.” This allows users to take advantage of AI image generation that significantly reduces generation time while maintaining complex reasoning capabilities and high image quality.
In addition to the release of “Nano Banana 2,” a new style selection feature has also been launched within “Generate image.” This new style selection feature is similar to the template feature released for “Generate video (Veo 3.1),” enabling users to specify a style in advance to ensure more reliable image generation results when combined with their prompts.

Please note that “Generate image” powered by “Nano Banana 2” and the style selection feature are currently available only on the web version of the Gemini app. They have not yet been released for the Android or iOS versions of the Gemini app.
