Japan’s First: KDDI Enables eSIM Transfer Between Android and iPhone

On Wednesday, February 18, 2026, KDDI and Okinawa Cellular officially announced the start of support for “cross-platform eSIM transfer,” which enables the transfer of eSIM profiles between Android and iPhone.

Until now, “cross-platform eSIM” was only available through US carriers AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon, and the German carrier Telekom. However, it is now available for the first time in Japan via KDDI and Okinawa Cellular’s MNO brands: au, povo, and UQ mobile. Compatible devices are limited to Google Pixel devices from the Pixel 9 series onwards running Android 16, and iPhones from the iPhone 11 series onwards running iOS 26.

As a side note, KDDI has extended the reception hours for eSIM transfer procedures starting Tuesday, February 17, 2026, to 0:05 AM until 11:55 PM the following day. Please be aware that eSIM transfers are not possible during the 10-minute window between 11:55 PM and 0:05 AM.
