On Monday, February 16, 2026, Google Japan officially announced the redesign of the “Explore” tab as a new feature for the Android and iOS versions of the “Google Maps” mapping service.
The redesign of the “Explore” tab in the Google Maps app for Android and iOS is identical to the announcement made by Google HQ around November 2025. In the updated “Explore” tab, users will see helpful information about their current surroundings, such as recommended popular restaurants, activities, and sightseeing spots, using data from tour and restaurant reservation sites.
The redesign of the “Explore” tab for the Android and iOS versions of Google Maps was originally announced to roll out globally starting in November 2025; however, it appears the rollout in Japan finally commenced in February 2026.
