On Friday, February 13, 2026, Google released “Android 17 Beta 1,” the first beta version of the next-generation Android OS, “Android 17.”

While “Android 17 Beta 1” was originally scheduled for release on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, a rare occurrence saw its release postponed just moments before the launch. However, it reached official release just two days later.

“Android 17 Beta 1” will be delivered via “OTA (Over the Air)” software updates to 20 compatible devices: Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel Fold, Pixel Tablet, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8a, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel 9a, Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold. These are devices currently enrolled in the “Android Canary” channel, which allows users to test pre-release Android APIs and the latest builds. While Google previously released early beta versions as “Developer Previews,” starting with Android 17, they have replaced them with the “Android Canary” channel to issue updates more quickly and consistently.

Note that joining the “Android Canary” channel requires an initial manual factory image flash using the “Android Flash Tool.” Since the OTA images for “Android 17 Beta 1” have been released, you can flash the update using the “Android Flash Tool.”

Android 17 Beta 1 introduces major enhancements to camera and media functions, new tools for connectivity optimization, and profile extensions for companion devices. Following the Android 17 Beta 1 update, the build number will be “CP21.260116.011.B1” or “CP21.260116.011.A1,” the Android security patch will be dated “January 5, 2026,” and the “Google Play Services” app will be updated to version v25.47.33 or later.

Following this Android 17 Beta 1 release, “Android 17 Beta 2” is (presumably) expected to be released in March 2026 as the Platform Stability version, with the final version leading up to the Android 17 major update scheduled for release from April 2026 onwards.

Similar to last year’s “Android 16″—where the major update was released in Q2 2025 and its minor update “Android 16 QPR2” in Q4—the next-generation “Android 17” is planned to follow the same cycle in 2026, with the major update in Q2 and the minor update “Android 17 QPR2 (tentative)” in Q4.
