On Tuesday, January 27, 2026, Google announced two updates to its Google Search AI features, “AI Overviews” and “AI Mode.”
The first update is the introduction of “Gemini 3” as the default AI model for “AI Overviews.” This allows users to receive best-in-class AI-generated responses.
The second update is the seamless integration that allows users to ask additional questions in “AI Mode” directly from “AI Overviews.” When a search is performed, users can now seamlessly transition from the displayed “AI Overview” to “AI Mode” to ask deeper, follow-up questions.
The rollout of features such as the seamless integration between “AI Overviews” and “AI Mode” has already begun, including in Japan.
