In the January 2026 “Google System Release Notes” published on Monday, January 26, 2026—which detail the latest “Google System Update” aimed at improving the security and reliability of Android-related devices—Google announced support for digital ID creation within the Android “Google Wallet” app.
With “Google Play services” app version 26.03 or later, users will be able to create digital IDs in the Android “Google Wallet” app as necessary. However, it remains unclear at this time exactly what these “digital IDs” entail.
That said, recent updates to the Android “Google Wallet” app have confirmed the implementation of “Pass Verification,” a new security feature expected to facilitate adding high-security cards and passes, such as digital student IDs and digital corporate IDs, to “Google Wallet.” Therefore, it is speculated that this new digital ID creation support means that high-security cards and passes, including digital student and employee IDs, can now be added to the Android “Google Wallet” app.
