Google AI Ultra: AI Model Limits Boosted

Key Points of This Article
  • Josh Woodward (@joshwoodward), Director of the “Gemini” app, has announced an increase in AI model usage limits for the top-tier “Google AI Ultra” plan.
  • Previously capped at 500 uses per day for both models, the new limits are 500 uses per day for “Pro” and 1,500 uses per day for “Thinking mode.”
  • The usage limits, which were previously shared between the two, have been separated since mid-January 2026.

Josh Woodward (@joshwoodward), lead of the Google AI “Gemini” app (@GeminiApp), announced on Friday, January 23, 2026, an increase in AI model usage limits for the top-tier “Google AI Ultra” plan.

The models receiving increased limits within “Google AI Ultra” are “Pro” and “Thinking” mode in the Gemini app. While both were previously limited to 500 uses per day, the new limits allow for 500 uses per day for “Pro” and 1,500 uses per day for “Thinking mode.”

Furthermore, these limits for “Pro” and “Thinking mode” were previously shared, meaning that using either model would consume the same pool of available requests. However, since mid-January 2026, these limits have been separated, and independent usage limits are now applied to each AI model.

Incidentally, the increase in AI model usage limits for “Google AI Ultra” announced by Josh Woodward had already been implemented at the time the limit separation was first mentioned. In other words, this announcement confirms what was already in place.
