On Wednesday, January 14, 2026, Google announced “Personal Intelligence,” a new personal AI assistant feature for Google AI “Gemini” that provides users with more highly personalized information.

“Personal Intelligence” is a personal AI assistant feature that could be described as an evolution of “App Extensions,” proactively providing information tailored specifically to the user. It cross-references personal data stored across services like Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube (watch history), and Google Search (history), extracting specific details and making inferences from these sources to deliver precise answers.

For example, if you have a flat tire and need a replacement, you could ask Gemini, “What are the best winter tires for my car?” Gemini can then look through your past online shopping history in Gmail or find photos of your car in Google Photos to identify the specific make and model, subsequently suggesting the ideal winter tires for your vehicle. In other words, there is no need to manually provide the car model or manufacturer every time; Gemini returns the best answer based on your personal information.

“Personal Intelligence”

“Personal Intelligence” is designed with privacy as a top priority. Users can configure whether to link individual services like Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, and Google Search, and sensitive data is not sent outside of the Personal Intelligence environment. Furthermore, data stored in Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, and Google Search will not be used for training purposes to improve the functionality of Personal Intelligence; it is trained only on limited information.

“Personal Intelligence” is first being introduced as a beta version for “Google AI Pro” and “Google AI Ultra” members in the U.S. via the web, Android, and iOS Gemini apps. It is also scheduled to be introduced to “AI Mode” in the near future, with plans to expand availability to more countries and free users later on.

Incidentally, Personal Intelligence is intended for personal Google accounts and does not appear to be available for Google Workspace accounts at this time.
