On Thursday, January 8, 2026, Google announced that “Help Me Write,” an AI writing assistance feature previously available primarily for “Google Workspace” groupware accounts, will be released for free on its email service, “Gmail.”

“Help Me Write” in Gmail is an AI feature that not only refines existing email drafts but can also generate entire drafts from scratch based on a simple prompt. Additionally, the existing “Smart Reply” feature has been upgraded to “Suggested Reply,” an AI-driven reply suggestion system based on email context powered by Google AI “Gemini 3.” Along with “Help Me Write,” this will be made available for free to general Gmail users.

Furthermore, in February 2026, Google plans to roll out a feature that personalizes “Help Me Write” by retrieving context from other Google apps. In addition, a new advanced editing feature called “Proofread,” which focuses on grammar, tone, and style, will be introduced specifically for members of “Google One” AI subscription plans, such as “Google AI Pro” and “Google AI Ultra.”
