On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, Google announced a renewal of “Google Play Games,” the gaming platform within its “Google Play” content store.
As part of that “Google Play Games” renewal, the in-game AI overlay tool “Google Play Games Sidekick” has begun rolling out in Japan as “Google Play Games Assistant” starting in mid-December 2025. However, at this time, it is being released as a beta version titled “Google Play Games Assistant (Beta).”
To use “Google Play Games Assistant (Beta),” you must enable “Developer options” in the Google Play Store app for Android. By repeatedly tapping the “Play Store version” in the Google Play Store app settings, “Developer options” will be activated. Once enabled, you can turn on “Google Play Games Assistant (Beta)” within the “Developer options” settings.
Once this is done, you will be able to run “Google Play Games Assistant (Beta).” Currently, “Google Play Games Assistant (Beta)” is available on devices running Android 13 or later that use the “Google Play Games Profile” gamer profile feature. Additionally, it appears that version 49.3 or later of the Google Play Store app for Android is a requirement.
*In my environment, “Google Play Games Assistant (Beta)” was available on a Pixel 10 Pro XL running version 49.3 of the Play Store app, while it was not yet available on a Pixel 10 Pro Fold running version 49.2.

“Google Play Games Assistant (Google Play Games Sidekick)” is a helpful feature that displays game-related information, such as tutorials and strategy guides, while playing titles associated with “Google Play Games.” It also integrates the conversational AI “Gemini Live,” allowing users to play while having real-time conversations to receive hints and strategies. It is truly a “sidekick” feature designed to support the user.
