- Google has announced a functional expansion of “SynthID Detector (@SynthID),” an AI-generated content identification and verification tool, within the “Extensions” settings of the Google AI “Gemini.”
- It is now possible to identify whether videos uploaded to Gemini were edited or generated by Google AI.
- The limit for videos that can be uploaded to Gemini is a maximum of 100 MB and 90 seconds in length.
On Thursday, December 18, 2025, Google announced an expansion of the capabilities for SynthID Detector (@SynthID). This tool for verifying AI-generated content has been rolling out since mid-November 2025 within the Extensions settings of Google’s AI, “Gemini.”
SynthID Detector is a verification tool that identifies digital watermarks embedded in images, videos, audio, and text generated by Google AI. With this latest expansion of @SynthID, it is now possible to determine if a video uploaded to Gemini was edited or generated by Google AI.
Using it is simple: just upload the target video to Gemini and ask something like, “Was this generated by Google AI?” Gemini will then respond with findings such as, “SynthID was detected in the 10–20 second audio track” or “SynthID was not detected.”
The limit for videos uploaded to Gemini is a maximum of 100 MB and 90 seconds in length. @SynthID and the newly announced functional expansions are available in all countries and languages where the Gemini app is supported.
