On Friday, December 12, 2025, Josh Woodward (@joshwoodward), lead for the Google AI “Gemini” app (@GeminiApp), announced two updates rolling out to the intuitive conversational service, “Gemini Live.”
The updates rolling out to “Gemini Live” include a fix for its “bad habit” of interrupting during long conversations and the change of the pause button [⏸] to a mute button [🎙].

Currently, “Gemini Live” has a “bad habit” of interrupting and starting a conversation on its own when a user speaks for a long time, but this will be fixed with the introduction of the Gemini-based audio generation AI model, “Gemini 2.5 Flash Native Audio.” This fix for the “bad habit” will first roll out to “Gemini Live” on Android, and will also be deployed to “Gemini Live” on iOS in early 2026.
Additionally, the pause button [⏸] has been changed to a mute button [🎙]. By turning on mute while “Gemini Live” is speaking, you can now prevent it from picking up unnecessary microphone sounds. This will prevent interruptions caused by unwanted microphone noise, especially when asking “Gemini Live” for a long response.
The change from the pause button [⏸] to the mute button [🎙] has started rolling out on “Gemini Live” for Android.
