On Monday, December 8, 2025, Google announced a new feature for the web version of its online photo library service, Google Photos: support for editing RAW photo files.
Previously, when editing RAW photos on the web version of Google Photos, they were first converted to JPG files for editing, which meant it did not effectively support RAW photo editing. Additionally, when downloading RAW photos, they were also converted to and downloaded as JPG files.
However, the web version of Google Photos now allows you to download RAW photos as RAW files, enabling you to edit them with software that supports RAW file editing. Furthermore, similar to the Google Photos app for Android, it is also possible to set Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop, or Photopea as the default RAW editor and edit RAW files directly from the web version of Google Photos.
Support for RAW editing on the web version of Google Photos is currently rolling out.
