Key Points of This Article
  • A “Low-light mode” setting has been quietly added with the “Android 16 QPR2” update for Google Pixel devices.
  • When the surroundings get dark while the “Screen saver” is running, the “Low-light clock” is displayed.
  • In the “Low-light mode” settings, it may become possible to select options other than the “Low-light clock” in the future.

On Tuesday, December 2, 2025, Google began rolling out the December 2025 monthly software update for its Google Pixel devices running the new generation Android OS “Android 16,” from the “Pixel 6” series to the “Pixel 10” series, including the “Pixel Fold” and “Pixel Tablet.” This update includes the usual monthly security vulnerability fixes and feature enhancements.

The December 2025 monthly software update that has started rolling out to Google Pixel devices is the release of “Android 16 QPR2,” an OS minor update to the “Android 16” major update released on Tuesday, June 10, 2025. It brings an Android security patch update, bug fixes/improvements, and several new features.

However, it appears that a new feature not officially announced has also been quietly rolled out. This new feature quietly rolled out to Google Pixel devices is the “Low-light mode” setting, which displays a “Low-light clock” when the surroundings get dark while the “Screen saver” is running. If you turn on the “Screen saver” and also enable the “Low-light mode” setting, when you darken the room, for example, when going to bed at night, the “Low-light clock” will be displayed while the “Screen saver” remains active.

Incidentally, in the “Low-light mode” settings, it may become possible to select options other than the “Low-light clock” in the future.
