On Tuesday, December 2, 2025, Google announced Japanese language support for “Voice Access,” an accessibility app that allows users with disabilities like paralysis and tremors to control their Android devices using only their voice. The app was first released in beta for English environments in 2016, nine years ago, and was officially launched two years later on Wednesday, October 3, 2018.

While the “Voice Access” app was promoted from beta to an official version after two years, it has taken another 7 years and 2 months for it to finally support Japanese controls. Japanese language support is available from “Voice Access” app version v16.1.804460814 onwards.

Furthermore, “Voice Access” is now compatible with Google’s AI, “Gemini,” allowing the app to be launched simply by saying, “OK Google, start Voice Access.” This means the “Voice Access” app can now be used completely hands-free and in Japanese.

By the way, the Japanese controls in the “Voice Access” app support the 23 most commonly used commands.
