On Tuesday, December 2, 2025, Google’s video service, YouTube, began introducing a feature for English videos similar to “Expressive Captions,” which was announced as one of the new features for Android devices in the December 2025 “New Android Features.”
The “Expressive Captions” in the December 2025 “New Android Features” is a function that displays emotion labels like [applause], [joy], and [sadness] in captions when “Live Caption” is turned on and sounds like laughter, applause, or music are played. A similar feature has now been introduced to YouTube videos, where captions, including these emotion labels, will be displayed when captions are enabled.
Currently, English videos uploaded after October 2025 are eligible for “Expressive Captions,” with plans to expand the feature to more past videos in the future.
