Three months ago, on Thursday, September 4, 2025, Google announced the rollout of “Scroll to translate,” a dynamic update to the translation feature of its “Circle to Search” gesture search function for Android devices, which translates content simultaneously as you scroll the screen.
“Scroll to translate” for “Circle to Search” was first rolled out to Samsung devices, with an announcement that it would gradually expand to other Android devices. However, for three months since then, the rollout had not expanded.
Amidst this, “Scroll to translate” (Translate as you scroll) for “Circle to Search” has finally started rolling out with the minor update “Android 16 QPR2” for the next-generation Android OS “Android 16,” which began distribution to Google Pixel devices on Tuesday, December 2, 2025. It feels less like a “finally” and more like an “at last.”
Previously, the translation feature in “Circle to Search” was static, translating only the text visible on the screen at one time. However, with the newly rolled-out “Scroll to translate,” it has been updated to a dynamic system where translation happens simultaneously as you scroll the screen.
It’s easy to use: simply activate “Circle to Search,” tap “Translate as you scroll,” and then just scroll the screen. The text on the screen will be automatically translated as it appears. To stop “Scroll to translate,” tap “Stop translating” in the notification center.
